Living Legend homes plans dismissed
The States of Jersey's planning and environment department has rejected plans for a new housing project on the site of the Living Legend attraction in St Peter.
Revised proposals submitted by site owner, the Lewis family, in January, would have seen the tourist attraction demolished in order to make way for 65 new homes. Initial plans for the Living Legend site, which boasts a karting complex and two adventure golf courses, were first mooted in summer 2008 due to a fall in tourism.
The Lewis family said the scheme, which also incorporated a car park and landscaped "amenity areas", was prompted by the need to find an new use for the 5.5-acre (2.2-hectare) site. However, Chris Lewis told BBC Jersey: "The main concern was although they accept the site is a large site, 5.5 acres, they felt that the number of houses in a country zone like that was unsuitable and that was really the same view of the planners."
Buckinghamshire-based RMA acted as lead consultant and architect on the development of the £8.5m Living Legend attraction, which was completed in 1992. The two adventure golf courses were added in 1997, while a revamp of the Living Legend Auditorium Show was completed in 2000.
