Local authority axes Leeds gymnastics plans
Plans to create a new gymnastics facility in part of the Indoor Bowls and Athletics Centre at the John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds, have been scrapped.
Leeds City Council (LCC) has announced that it will not be proceeding with the proposals, following consultation with relevant stakeholders. Earlier this month, LCC unveiled plans to convert the facility's athletics element into a new base for gymnastics and provide a new home for the City of Leeds Gymnastics Club.
A council spokesperson said: "We are committed to the future of both sports, and wish to reiterate our continued backing to the City of Leeds Gymnastics Club as they look to develop a new model in the city to allow gymnastics to thrive. "While work continues between the club, the council and British Gymnastics to identify a suitable new location the council will continue to support their use of the existing facility at Leeds Metropolitan University."
