London 2012 Athletes’ Village cutbacks?
The proposed health centre for the London 2012 Athletes’ Village has reportedly been shelved.
The Architects’ Journal said that the project, designed by Penoyre & Prasad, could be scrapped and the healthcare facilities could now be housed in a temporary building during the Games.
Lend Lease, the developer, is struggling to raise its contribution to the £1bn required for the village due to the global credit crisis, which has also led to it scaling back the number of housing units from 4,200 to 3,300.
An Olympic Delivery Authority spokesperson was quoted as saying: “We are continuing to review the scope of the Olympic Village to ensure we only build what is necessary for the Games.
“Specialist healthcare facilities will be provided during the Games and the location and layout of these facilities are part of the ongoing review.”
