London Colney leisure plans move forward
St Albans City and District Council (SACDC) is to pursue plans for a new leisure centre in London Colney, Hertfordshire, after consulting with local ward and parish councillors.
Further work will now be carried out in conjunction with the local parish council to address a number of issues raised during the consultation, which include ensuring affordable access.
Facilities at the Cotlandswick venue are expected to include a 60-station gym; a dance studio and multi-purpose room; a single-court sports hall; and eight five-a-side pitches.
A seven-a-side synthetic turf pitch; a lounge and bar area; changing rooms for fitness users; and separate changing areas for the five-a-side pitches are also proposed.
SACDC portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage Mike Wakely said: "I am delighted that we are able to go ahead with this third new leisure facility for the district.
"Westminster Lodge will be opening in late 2012, Batchwood will be rebuilt after this year's terrible fire and now London Colney's Cotlandswick project is taking one step closer to becoming a reality."
