The London Marathon Trust has today (11 February) pledged £3m to athletics and grassroots sports over 10 years if the city wins its 2012 Olympic Games bid.
The Trust has agreed to contribute £300,000 a year to help guarantee that the Olympic track and indoor arena which would be built to stage the Games.
“The Trust is extremely excited to be able to make a significant contribution to sporting facilities in London and the UK,” said John Disley, co-founder of the London Marathon.
“They will provide a focus for sporting excellence and high performance and will be managed for Londoners so that athletes striving for international success can inspire grassroots participation.”
