London tops European cinema ticket prices poll
London cinema tickets are more than three times more expensive than the European average, according to new research from the London Assembly’s Liberal Democrats.
According to the survey, an adult ticket to see a film at the Odeon Leicester Square on a Saturday night costs up to £17.50 (26 euro), compared to an average cost of £4.95 (7.4 euro) in the 10 major European capitals surveyed.
Commenting on the survey, the Liberal Democrats’ culture spokesperson on the assembly, Dee Doocey, said: “London topping the European price charts is just another case of ‘rip-off’ Britain.
“Cinema used to be a popular and cheap form of entertainment, but in London, it’s fast becoming a luxury few can afford.”
Other cities surveyed included Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Athens. Details: www.gla.libdems.org.uk
