Luminar looks to form gaming joint venture
UK bar and nightclub operator, Luminar, has announced it is in ‘advanced negotiations’ to form a gaming joint venture with an organisation in the casino sector.
The joint venture, which was announced as part of Luminar’s Christmas trading statement, is intended to take advantage of the anticipated UK gaming deregulation. Luminar is thought to be in advanced negotiations with French casino operator, Accor Group, but both parties have declined to confirm this.
A spokesperson for Luminar said: “The group has been considering the opportunities which may arise from the anticipated deregulation of gaming in the UK. Luminar is also investigating the potential of some of its high street square footage for conversion to gaming, but does not anticipate significant new capital commitment to this area in the short term.”
Luminar’s trading statement also included news that, over the five week period to 4 January, units which had received investment improved like for like sales by 25 per cent.
While total group like for like sales declined by 3 per cent, particular attention was drawn to its Chicago Rock Café estate, which has responded strongly to increased spend on refurbishment with like for like sales declining marginally by 1 per cent over the period as opposed to the 10 per cent decline which had been reported for the half year.
