SUCCESS STORIES

LUCY CARTER

  Lucy Carter joined Everyone

Active Westcroft Leisure Centre in2015 as an aquatic apprentice.

“I’ve been swimming from a

young age and when looking fora career I knew I wanted to work

in fitness and teach children: mymum’s a swimming teacher and

has always enjoyed her job.

After completing myLevel 1 ASA qualification, I

joined Westcroft Leisure Centreas an Aquatic Apprentice.

This enabled me to gain my

Level 2 and meant I could startteaching my own classes, which

is something I really enjoy.

I teach the same children everyweek and can really see their

progress. Myown confidence

has grown inthe role too and

I’ve completed additional CPDcourses alongside my swimming

teaching. I’ve also been able toqualify as a lifeguard.

Th is month I finished my

apprenticeship and have takenup a new role managing school

swimming lessons.

I love being part of theEveryone Active team – it

feels like a family, with areally supportive and friendly

environment. Working withexperienced teachers means I’m

learning and growing.”

LISA REEDER

Lisa Reeder has progressed fromswimming teacher to regional

swim impact manager atSpelthorne Leisure Centre.

“Seeing my own children

enjoying swimming lessonsinspired me to train as a teacher.

I completed Level 1 and 2 ASA

qualifications in 2006 and joinedEveryone Active part-time.

I also took on an admin role

managing school swimminglessons and enjoyed it so much

I applied to become a swimmanager. From there I was

promoted to regional swimimpact manager.

Th is involves managing 25

teachers, 1,800 children and15 schools, so

there’s lots oforganisation

required!

Being dyslexic hasn’t held meback and Everyone Active has

been supportive with training.

I still teach one?to?onesessions for children with

special needs on Sundays andseeing them lose their nerves

and go home with a smile ontheir face is hugely rewarding.

It’s also important I look aft er

my team, making sure theyprogress and develop their skills

to ensure they deliver the highstandard of teaching we need

for our Swim School.”

CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS

Charlotte Chambers joinedHucknall Leisure Centre as a

lifeguard aged 16 and is now aswim lesson manager.

“I always enjoyed swimming as

a child and I love seeing peopleprogress, so becoming a teacher

seemed the perfect role.

I joined Everyone Activeas a lifeguard, then took my

Level 1 and Level 2 swimteacher qualifications – at the

time I was the first 17?year?oldto take the qualification and I

was determined to make themost of the opportunity!

I taught lessons as part of

the Swim Scheme three days aweek for the next three years,

while takingCPD courses in

water polo, childprotection, adult

teaching and more.

I headed abroad for atime to teach and returned

in November 2015, as I loveworking here. I was given the

opportunity to progress toswim lesson manager, which

was really exciting.

I now work to improvethe numbers of participants

and make the Swim Schoola success. I also spend time

watching swimming teachersand helping them to progress to

swim managers themselves.”
