Marriott International is opening the Xiangshui Bay Marriott Resort & spa, a new beach resort on the Chinese island of Hainan.

The 144-bedroom resort will be completed in two phases, with the final phase finished in early 2017.

The hotel will feature a Quan Spa with a selection of treatments, including traditional Chinese medicine therapies. It also will include a 450sq m (4,844sq ft) ocean-front swimming pool and fitness centre.

The company said the resort’s design is inspired by the natural environment of the Xiangshui Bay Scenery Area, and features its own secluded beach.

“We want our guests to experience forward-thinking, aesthetically pleasing spaces that help foster their inventive nature,” said Matthew Carroll, vice president of Marriott Hotels.

The hotel is owned by Chinese property developer Guangzhou R&F Properties, and will also include eight restaurants and bars, a kids club, and game room for table tennis and billiards.
