Merlin plots Kansas City move for Legoland
UK-based visitor attraction operator Merlin Entertainments Group has announced plans to open a US$15m (£9.2m) Legoland Discovery Centre in Kansas City, US.
The new attraction, which will also include a shop and a café, will be the company's second venue at the Crown Center after it unveiled plans for a Sea Life aquarium in February. Due to open in May 2012 ahead of the Sea Life venue, the Legoland Discovery Centre is to offer an interactive and educational indoor experience for children aged between three and 10 years old.
The new attraction is set to feature a 4D cinema and masterclasses from Lego Master Model Builders, as well as Lego-themed rides and special party rooms. Glenn Earlam, managing director of Merlin's Midway attractions operating group, said: "The Legoland Discovery Centre concept is already successful in Europe and the US.
"North America is a very important development market for Merlin; and we believe that Kansas City, and particularly Crown Center, is a great location for us."
