Mixed-use development for Nevada university
Majestic Realty Co has revealed plans to partner with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) for a major new mixed-use development at the US institution.
The real estate development group, which owns Silverton Casino Lodge in Las Vegas, aims to establish a 150-acre (60.7-hectare) complex on the university's campus. A 40,000-seat event centre will be located at the heart of the development, which will include 600,000sq ft (55,742sq m) of retail and restaurant space and student accommodation.
The event centre is designed to cater for UNLV football, basketball and other sports, while it could also become home to a National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise. If a memorandum of understanding is given the green light by the Nevada Board of Regents on 11 February, Majestic will then start to develop more detailed plans for the scheme.
Silverton Casino president Craig Cavileer said: "Our multi-purpose events centre provides a permanent and profitable home for all UNLV sport."
