Gen3 Kinematics have introduced MyoQuip systems, developed in Australia and built in Britain that represent the most significant change in strength training for 40 years.

In rowing, the most renowned users of these systems are the highly successful Sydney University Rowing Club and New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS), which have together provided 23 athletes to the 2008 Olympic games and 2010 World Championships.

MyoQuip systems are an integral part of these institutions strength-training programmes having replaced the barbell squat in their training programmes. As Marty Rabjohns (Head Coach NSWIS) says, “Gluteal strength and forceful hip movement are essential factors in developing boat speed for rowing. Since the limb geometry of most rowers is not particularly suited to squatting, the MyoQuip systems facilitate power gains in these areas in a controlled environment, which are far safer and more effective than a squat.

The London Rowing Club is the first user of the MyoQuip systems in the UK and have already found 8-10 seconds improvement in the ergo times for their athletes. Head Coach Phil Bourguinon explains that, “when athletes get too strong for their skeletal frame and core stabililty in squatting, they can use the MyoQuip systems to increase strength safely where they can add far more weight than they are able to squat without the risk of injuring their back. In two years of heavy training, I have NOT had ONE back injury”.
