NT moves forward with 'local' strategy
The National Trust (NT) is to undergo an internal restructuring process - the second phase of reforms designed to "increase its relevance" and encourage greater local involvement.
As part of the first phase, which is now completed, a system of assistance directors, operations replaced area managers and the power of property and general managers was increased. Now the trust aims to streamline its regional structure, which will feature six English regions, Wales and Northern Ireland; a reduction of three English regions.
NT director general Dame Fiona Reynolds said: "The Trust is in very good spirits and financial health at present, but that is all the more reason for pressing ahead with positive reforms. "The aim of these changes is first and foremost to make us fitter to deliver our vision for a more universal and relevant trust in the 21st century, based on fantastic conservation and enjoyment of our properties, in a way that empowers our grass roots staff and engages our neighbours."
