NT unveils new Nightingale exhibition
Letters and memorabilia belonging to Florence Nightingale have been put on public display for the first time to mark the centenary of the nurse's death.
The National Trust (NT) has made a number of artefacts, journals and documents available at Claydon House, Buckinghamshire - former home of Nightingale's sister Frances Parthenope Verney and brother-in-law, Sir Harry Verney. In addition to the new exhibition, the NT has used photographs to recreate the private sitting room once used by Nightingale on a visit to the property.
Claydon House manager Philip Warner said: "This intriguing exhibition of Florence memorabilia gives visitors the chance to discover a different aspect of the life and personality of one of our country's most enduring heroines. "We are certain that they will feel a strong sense of her presence, especially in the sitting-room, which has been recreated as closely as possible to the way it looked in her time."
