A fatal crash involving two monorail passenger trains at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, US, on 5 July is to be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Ted Turpin from the NTSB Office of Railroad, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials will probe the incident, which occurred in the Magic Kingdom section of the park, killing one of the train's operators. No passengers were seriously injured. In a statement, park spokesperson Mike Griffin offered his condolences to the train operator's family, and announced that park officials would be helping authorities to establish the cause of the crash.
He said: "The safety of our guests and staff is always our top priority. The monorail is out of service and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement to determine what happened and the appropriate next steps."
