Neath golf course upgrade completed
A nine-hole golf course at Gnoll Country Park, near Neath, South Wales, has been improved as part of efforts to establish a legacy from the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The Welsh Assembly Government has agreed to contribute more than £102,600 through its Ryder Cup Wales Legacy Fund, which aims to upgrade the country's golf facilities. Plans for the Gnoll Country Park course include the development of junior golf in the area using the venue's new-look facilities, with young people aged between seven and 16 years old targeted.
Ryder Cup Wales chair John Jermine said: "As well as improving the tees and greens, the nine-hole course has been redesigned to make it more suitable for beginners, juniors and social golfers. "The average hole on the new course is just less than 130 yards long and will give everybody a fair test that they will really enjoy."
Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones added: "This is one of the top tourist attractions in the area and now it will have golf much more at the heart of it, which shows our commitment to improving the game at all levels and in all areas of Wales."
