New exercise classes in Exning
The people of Exning will be delighted to hear that a series of new exercise classes will be coming to Exning Church Hall, thanks to Anglia Community Leisure (ACL).
Classes will initially be put on for new mums and those who are over 60 but ACL hopes to develop a wider range of activities for everyone if these first classes prove popular.
The first sessions will be completely free to give people the chance to come along and give them a try. From then on classes will be £3 each.
First up will be Chair Based Exercise for the over 60s with a free taster session on Wednesday 9 February from 11am to 12noon. This is a fun gentle class designed to strengthen joints and muscles. All exercises are done from a seated position and will gently work arms, legs and back. These sessions are great for all abilities and strengths and will help people with walking, climbing stairs and keeping their independence.
Also for over 60s is a new Yoga class, starting with a free taster session on Friday 11 February from 10am to 11am. Yoga helps with mobility, flexibility, improving circulation and enhancing bone density so it's a perfect low impact class. The classes will cover a range of gentle and effective yoga poses combined with breathing exercises to help circulation and heart rate. Relaxation techniques will also help relieve stress and aid rest.
Mums and babies can benefit from Yoga too and a special class for them will start with a free taster session on Friday 11 February from 11.15am to 12.15pm. This is a shared experience for mum and baby providing the baby with the stimulation of touch, movement and rhythm. The relaxation techniques will benefit both mum and baby, relieving stress and tension to help create harmony for both. It's also a great way for mum to tone up and regain flexibility and strength after months of being pregnant and giving birth. The class will be great fun for everyone and a good way to make new friends.
Keiran Williams, Community Sports Leader at Anglia Community Leisure, says: "We are keen to get more classes out to local communities so that everyone has access to getting active. We know that many older people or mums with babies often have trouble getting out to the towns to take part in leisure activities so, if they can't get to us, we'll come to them!"
