New exercise programme for overweight Lincoln kids
A new physical activity programme designed to get more children active is being piloted in Lincoln.
A series of free after-school activities for overweight children aged between eight and 11, called Active8Kidz, is being funded by NHS Lincolnshire and will run once a week for 12 weeks. The sessions comprise alternative forms of exercise including hula-hooping, street dance and boxercise classes and will be held at local schools. Participating children can get involved if referred via GPs, schools or their parents.
Fiona Roche, physical activity officer for the City of Lincoln Council, said; "Nationally, there is an increasing number of overweight children and this is a great opportunity for children in Lincoln to get active through fun activities. These sessions are free, so I would encourage parents of overweight children to get in touch with the council for more details."
