New fitness concept launched
A new concept in health and fitness clubs, Gymbox, is to be launched in London in June 2003 - backed by Fitness First.
Gymbox is a new approach to gym culture aimed at creating an accessible, social and stimulating atmosphere for all ages in which to exercise.
It utilises fitness equipment in a pod configuration and provides a range of classes based on influences including a Brazilian warrior dance, circus routines, traditional Greek music and a Jewish wedding.
Combat is also featured, with an Olympic-sized boxing ring and over 20 punch bags.
Founder of Gymbox, Richard Hilton, said: 'Learning combat sports such as boxing or kickboxing is more stimulating than running on a treadmill'.
Further sites are scheduled to open later in the year.
Fitness First - currently the subject of MBO talks - has a majority holding in the venture.
