New gallery opens at Manchester’s Museum of Science
The new, flagship gallery at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry was officially opened to the public on 1 April.
The gallery – Manchester Science: Discoveries that Changed the World – exhibits scientific developments which have taken place in Manchester alongside current scientific discoveries which are still being made.
Gallery visitors progress along a timeline of discovery and enter a series of audio-visual ‘holodecks’ which feature four famous Manchester-based scientists – John Dalton, James Joule, Ernest Rutherford and Sir Bernard Lovell.
Acting director of the museum, Bob Scott, said: “This is a really exciting and long-awaited moment for the museum and for Manchester.
“The gallery is a stunning showpiece for the incredible developments in science which took place in Manchester, as well as the scientific discovery which continues today.”
He continued: “It will inspire and amaze our visitors, whatever their knowledge of science, and give a fascinating insight into the individual lives of the scientists.” Details: www.msim.org.uk
