New government tourism guide launched
A new UK government guide aimed at supporting the tourism industry was launched this month by planning minister, Baroness Andrews, and tourism minister, Shaun Woodward.
The document – Planning for Tourism: A Guide to Good Practice – sets out a planning framework for tourism. The guide identifies which national planning policies are most relevant to the tourism industry and offers advice to local authorities and the tourism industry on effective working practices to achieve attractive tourism developments.
Policy director of the Tourism Alliance, Kurt Janson, said: “The guide provides a framework in which one of Britain’s largest industries can grow and prosper while protecting the resources on which it is based.”
The guide will replace the existing national planning guidance for tourism – PPG21 – which will be cancelled on 1 September. Details: www.communities.gov.uk
