New horse arena planned for Crow Wood
A Burnley leisure centre is planning to build a new equestrian arena.
Crow Wood Leisure Centre is planning to enclose its existing 60m x 20m (195ft x 65ft) horse venue and build a new 60m x 30m (195ft x 98ft) outdoor arena.
A spokesperson for the leisure centre told This Is Lancashire: “The justification for enhancing these facilities is supported by the British Dressage Association and the British Horse Society.
“Existing facilities are currently poor rated against regional or international standards and the existing 40m x 20m indoor riding arena is not acceptable for competition purposes.
“In 2006, Crow Wood built an additional 60m x 20m area, the minimum size acceptable to British Dressage standards. The lack of floodlighting and the short days of winter combined with the vagaries of the British weather seriously limit the ability of Crow Wood to offer a year round sensible competition base."
The centre also has plans to turn its tennis courts into a five-a-side football centre.
