New leisure complex opens in Dublin
The new multi-million euro Meadowbrook Sports and Leisure Facility at Ballinteer in Dublin, Ireland, has been officially unveiled by Martin Cullen, the Irish minister for arts, sports and tourism.
Operated by Dún Laoghaire Leisure Services on behalf of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Counci, the new complex features a 25m, six-lane swimming pool and a 13m x 9m learner pool, as well as an aerobics room and four all-weather pitches. Meadowbrook also features a gymnasium, including 22 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, a nine-piece express circuit and a full range of resistance equipment, along with squash courts and a meeting room.
The Irish government contributed 3.8m euro (£3.4m) to the project under the Department for Arts, Sport and Tourism's Local Authority Swimming Pool Programme, as well as a further 940,000 euro (£846,400) through the Sports Capital Programme. Cullen said: "This new leisure complex will greatly enhance the recreational facilities for the people of Dundrum, Ballinteer and surrounding areas, especially the very impressive swimming facilities.
"Swimming is a sport for all ages and is generally considered to be one of the best forms of physical exercise for developing and maintaining high levels of physical fitness."
