New-look waterpark launched in Coatbridge
North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) has officially opened The Time Capsule in Coatbridge, following the completion of the first phase of a £6m refurbishment.
Council provost Tom Curley unveiled the new-look waterpark, which was closed for nearly a year to enable renovation works to be carried out. Among the new attractions at The Time Capsule is one of the only indoor Tornado Tantrum slides in Europe, which has been imported from Canada.
The waterpark also includes Splashdown Island - a new interactive play area with one of the country's largest tipping buckets able to unleash up to two tons of water on swimmers. Opened during December, The Time Capsule has attracted more than 40,000 visitors - a 130 per cent increase on figures for the same period last year.
Curley said: "[The Time Capsule] has a proud past and can look forward to an exciting future thanks to the improvements that have been made." NLC's Jim Logue, who chairs the Time Capsule Trust, added: "We've set an ambitions target one million visitors this year, so naturally we're delighted that so many people have visited in the opening week."
