Scarborough Borough Council's (SBC) mayor Hazel Lynskey and Whitby town mayor Terry Jennison have opened the North Yorkshire town's new marina building.

The £850,000 facility replaces outdated toilet and onshore provision as part of a wider £2m scheme to regenerate the upper harbour, which has also included new pontoons and rock revetment works. A SBC spokesperson said: "We now have high quality public toilets and facilities for the thousands of marina users who come to Whitby each year in their leisure craft, as well as the yacht and boat enthusiasts who live in the town."
