New mobile travel activities study published
Nearly one-fifth of US smartphone owners used their devices to book a flight or hotel room during the three months ending February 2012, according to a new study from comScore.
The latest comScore Travel Advisor report found that, during the same period, 51 per cent of smartphone users accessed air and/or hotel-related content on their mobiles.
Looking up directions to hotels; researching places to eat near hotels; and comparing prices and availability were among some of the most popular activities for smartphone users.
ComScore senior vice president of mobile Mark Donovan said: "The on-the-go convenience of smartphones has facilitated their emergence as an essential companion for travellers.
"We all know how hectic a travel experience can be, but smartphones have really stepped in to meet a variety of needs, such as coordination of schedules, locations, trip itineraries and transactions."
