New plan to improve Welsh health
The Welsh Assembly Government is looking to encourage people in Wales to become more active as part of new measures to tackle rising obesity levels and to improve health.
An action plan, called Creating an Active Wales, has been drawn up by the Assembly Government in partnership with a number of key stakeholders and partners. Welsh people will also have a chance to comment on the priorities for improving health and wellbeing over the next five years. Four strategic aims have been identified by the action plan. These are the development of a more accessible physical environment; a support network for young people to help them live active lives; encouraging more adults to become more active; and to increase participation in sport.
Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones said: "The Assembly Government wants to support the Welsh population to be more physically active on a daily basis because of the health, social and economic benefits that exercise provides. "In order to give that support, we need to find even more effective ways for different organisations across the public, private and third sector to work together and to better educate and engage individuals in sport, physical activity and active recreation."
