New play areas unveiled in Smethwick
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) has officially unveiled two new play facilities in Smethwick, West Midlands, as part of the Play Pathfinder scheme.
The new sites - at Harry Mitchell Park and Londonderry Playing Fields - were designed with the assistance of local primary school pupils and have been delivered despite government spending cuts. Harry Mitchell Park's new facility is made from timber and boasts a trim trail and a Viking swing, while the site at Londonderry Playing Fields is "more traditional", with swings, a roundabout and a net with a slide.
Bob Badham, cabinet member for children and young people at SMBC, said: "The council's children and families services, cultural services and highways and environment, have been working in partnership to continue to deliver the Play Pathfinder programme, despite cuts in the government funding which were announced earlier this summer."
