New professional body to raise standards in sport
Three national sports organisations have committed their support for the joint development of a new professional body to improve standards in the sports sector.
The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management (ILAM), the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) and the National Association for Sports Development (NASD) have each agreed to consult their membership on the core principles of the new organisation.
The new body will play a major role in the Sport England-led drive for an improvement agency for sport and will also work with the devolved administrations in the home countries to determine how best to support the sector in their countries.
Sports minister Richard Caborn, who brought the three organisations together, said: “I am delighted that the senior players in ILAM, ISRM and NASD have recognised the importance of a unified sector and are showing real leadership in engaging with us in such constructive dialogue to drive forward this crucial work on improvement."
Sport England’s chief executive, Roger Draper, added: “A new professional body that encompasses sport would be an important step in our work to drive improvement and advance standards across our sector.
“We have made the improvement agenda a major priority and we will be committing significant investment to move this forward.”
