New sports facilities for Yorkshire Dales
Reeth and District Community Sports Club (RDCSC) has received the green light to move forward with plans to develop new sports facilities for rural communities in Yorkshire.
Residents in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are in line to benefit from a new floodlit multi-use games area, which can be used for basketball, netball, five-a-side football, hockey and tennis. A pavilion equipped with changing rooms and showers, storage areas and improvements to the existing playing surface also form part of the RDCSC scheme, which is set to cost more than £600,000.
The Football Foundation has contributed £344,444 towards the project, while Sport England has invested nearly £152,000. North Yorkshire County Council, Richmondshire District Council, Reeth Parish Council and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust have also contributed. Anne Boyd, Sport England regional lead for Yorkshire, said: "If community sports clubs want to attract and retain participants, they need to be able to offer quality facilities for everyone.
"The improvements to Reeth and District Community Sports Club's facilities will be welcomed by regular users and those who are new to sport." Work is due to get underway this month once preliminary preparations are completed, with the construction process due to take 34 weeks.
