New tourism proposals for Lincoln
One of the two tourist information centres in Lincoln that are set to close later this year as part of cost-cutting measures by the City of Lincoln Council (CLC) could now be saved under new proposals.
The council's executive will discuss plans to work in partnership with Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) to continue providing services at the tourist information facility at Castle Square, saving four full-time positions. CLC leader Darren Grice said: "We're still in the very early stages, but we have reached an agreement in principle that Lincoln BIG will take over the management of the centre on Castle Square, with the help of a grant from the city council."
In March, the council had agreed to the closure of the centres, as well as withdrawing funding for its arts service and the transfer of the city's marketing to Lincolnshire Tourism, saving £280,000.
