New £6.5m cultural centre for Woking
A new museum and cultural centre planned for Woking moves a step closer next month (May) when the winner of an architectural competition to design the site will be announced.
A winner will be chosen on May 10 from six shortlisted architects including John Miller & Partners, Walters & Cohen, Brookes Stacey Randall and Bill Dunster Architects.
The £6.5m Woking Galleries will incorporate a museum, exhibition facilities, performance and workshop spaces as well as a café and shop. It will also have a strong green focus, and showcase energy efficient technology used in Woking Borough.
The Galleries are being developed by a local charity alongside Woking Borough Council.
At least £3m has already been secured toward the project, and if a planned application for lottery funding is successful work is expected to start in 2005. Details: +44 (0)1483 725517
