Niagara Sheraton planning waterpark addition
NFNY Hotel Management, owner of the Sheraton at the Falls at Niagara Falls, will add a waterpark to its offering as the operator looks to expand its business.
Sheraton at the Falls, which has added a Rainforest Café, Starbucks, T.G.I. Friday’s, gaming arcade and a sweet shop since launch, is looking at a 25,000sq ft (2,300sq m) site just north of the hotel on the US side of the falls for the proposed development.
Michael DiCienzo, a prominent property developer in Niagara Falls, recently met with the city about the plans, with officials to consider the land sale for the proposal next week. The plot of land is currently used for short-term parking. Under the proposed agreement, the city would retain ownership of the service roadway running between the hotel and plot, as well as the roadway connecting that road to the main street.
Beyond confirmation a waterpark would be developed, no further details on the plans have been released or submitted for approval. According to Thomas J. DeSantis, Niagara Falls’ acting director of economic development and senior planner, because of its location the land is “fairly useless” to anyone except the hotel.
The proposal proved fruitful for the Sheraton’s nearby sister site, Sheraton on the Falls, on the Canadian side of the border in Ontario, which opened a 90,000sq ft (8,400sq m) waterpark on adjacent land in 2006.
