Odeon and NEC in 3D deal
Cinema chain Odeon has joined with NEC Display Solutions to improve its 3D offer across the company.
Odeon – one of the largest cinema groups in Europe with around 200 cinemas and more than 1,800 screens in Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal – is rolling out Munich-based NEC’s NC1600 projectors after trialling them at its Hatfield site.
Drew Kaza, executive vice president of digital development at Odeon, said: “Over the last two years we have put NEC’s technology through its paces. NEC has equipped Odeon with a groundbreaking digital cinema projection system and we anticipate a resultant jump in per seat revenues.”
NEC’s deal with Odeon comes just weeks after its deal with Cineworld, where Odeon’s rival planned to have 148 digital screens fitted and operational by April.
