Oldham's leisure centre development on track
Construction work on a new leisure centre in Chadderton, Oldham, is on track for an Autumn 2009 opening.
The Chadderton Health and Wellbeing Centre, being created by Carillion Regional Building, will feature a 25m swimming pool, dance studios, a library, a gym, meeting rooms and a café. The project is being led by Oldham Council, in partnership with Community 1st Oldham and is part of the Local Improvement Finance Trust initiative, to upgrade facilities in the area. The centre is being built on land used by an old council depot and is designed to replace the existing Chadderton pool, which was forced to close in 2007.
Oldham Council’s cabinet member for community services and housing councillor John McCann said: “Chadderton Health and Wellbeing Centre signals the beginning of a new era for the delivery of health and wellbeing services across Oldham. "This flagship project brings together a range of partners to deliver complimentary services from a single purpose built site. The new facility will enable us to deliver improved services in a joined up way, more quickly and more efficiently within the heart of Oldham’s communities." he said.
