Olympic Torch Relay route announced
More than 1,000 cities, towns and villages have been confirmed as being on the route of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, which will commence on 19 May next year.
Starting at Land's End in Cornwall, the route will take the Olympic Flame within an hour's journey and 10 miles (16.1km) of more than 95 per cent of the UK population.
Every English county and every Scottish, Northern Irish and Welsh local authority area are to play host to the Olympic Flame, with the street-by-street detail to be confirmed next year.
Meanwhile, a range of transport methods will be used to transport the Olympic Flame on its 10-week journey through the UK, including horseback, tram, steam train and bicycle.
LOCOG chair Sebastian Coe said: "The Olympic Games are coming to you as the Olympic Flame gives our people and places their moment to shine."
