Online business boosts William Hill results
Bookmaker William Hill has posted a 1 per cent increase in net revenue for the 13 weeks ending 30 March 2010 – boosted by a strong online performance.
Compared with the same period last year, the UK-based group saw net revenue at its online business grow by a quarter, while operating profit increasing by more than half. The company's overall operating profit increased by 3 per cent during the period, although sporting cancellations as a result of poor weather conditions affected its retail division.
William Hill chief executive Ralph Topping said: "I am satisfied with our performance this early in the year, with an improvement shown in overall retail turnover levels and good growth from William Hill Online in revenues, operating profit and new accounts. "Despite the continuing challenging market conditions, I am confident that we are on track to achieve our objectives for this year."
