Organic Monitor reveals predictions for 2009
Research and consulting company Organic Monitor has released its 2009 trend predictions on specialist industries.
Organic Monitor predicts that positive growth will continue in the organic food and drink market throughout this year, but slower growth rates are expected in countries most affected by the global economic slowdown.
Elsewhere, global sales of natural cosmetics are increasing by more than US$1bn (0.79bn euro, £0.7bn) a year, according to Organic Monitor. Healthy market growth in this sector is expected for 2009, with mainstream retailers such as supermarkets, drugstores and pharmacies being the majority growth drivers.
A number of retailers are also launching certified natural and organic cosmetics under their private labels, although some rationalisation is expected during this year, due to the high number of brands competing for limited shelf space.
Ingredient prices in natural and organic cosmetics are anticipated to decline in 2009, while increased globalisation of supply chains is predicted to continue, as large ingredient companies spread their production bases. Details: organicmonitor.com
