PayAsUGym receives industry recognition for its work increasing participation at more than 2,500 gyms and health clubs across the UK

PayAsUGym, the online fitness marketplace, has won the inaugural award for ‘Best Health & Fitness Innovation’ at the Elevate 2017 event, held at the Excel Centre in London on 10-11 May.

Having helped more than 1.5 million people visit the gym in the last 12 months at more than 2,500 gyms and health clubs across the UK, PayAsUGym convinced an expert judging panel that it offered the most innovative service that they had seen in the fitness industry this year.

PayAsUGym won the innovation award specifically for the launch of its ‘Monthly+ Pass’, which enables gym operators to tap into the fast-growing multi-club member market by listing their club within the PayAsUGym marketplace.

Operators’ ability to fully maximise the multi-club member market is restricted by the number of clubs in their estate and the geographic distribution of these clubs. If the operator does not have a club in each location required by the customer, then they simply won’t join that operator. PayAsUGym’s Monthly+ Pass has solved this problem by enabling customers to access up to 2,500 clubs across its network, which now includes gyms in 96 per cent of all UK postcode districts.

Key to the success of the Monthly+ Pass is the control PayAsUGym has given to gym operators via its ‘Partner Portal’, which enables them to set and manage the price of the Monthly+ Pass at a premium above their own membership rate, which reflects the value of the increased flexibility the customer requires. This also means single club users will always find it cheaper to join a single club directly.

PayAsUGym then leverages the scale of its network to carry out national scale marketing, including terrestrial television, to appeal to people who don’t want single club membership, and gives them access to all the clubs in the PayAsUGym network.

Co-Founder of PayAsUGym Neil Harmsworth, said “I’m delighted that the fitness industry has recognised PayAsUGym as an innovative, effective and sustainable way for operators to attract new members into their clubs. We have worked extremely closely with our gym partners to develop a service which ensures all parties genuinely benefit from the service we provide and this award is fantastic recognition of that work.”

Max Quittenton, director of Elevate, said “With over 60 entries across five categories, our esteemed panel of judges decided that PayAsUGym’s Monthly+ Pass was the Best Health & Fitness Innovation of 2017. Celebrating Innovation is important because it will help the sector tackle inactivity more effectively; we look forward to acknowledging the next wave of Innovations at Elevate 2018.”

The judging panel consisted of industry heavyweights such as Nick Pearson (CEO of Parkrun), Jack Buckner (CEO of British Triathlon), David Langridge (managing director, Connected Fitness Labs) and Scott Niven (head of fitness at The Bannatyne Group).
