Peak District’s green initiative breaks million pound mark
The Peak District Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) has given nearly £1m in grants to help green and educational projects at the national park since its launch five years ago.
Administered through the National Park Authority and financed through the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the initiative has funded projects such as helping diverse ethnic communities take an interest in the National Park as well as a scheme to ensure contaminated plastic can be processed locally – rather than sending it to China.
Richard Godley, SDF officer, said: “The fund has made a significant difference to the sustainable management of the countryside, and to greater understanding of sustainability, through working with local individuals, businesses, community groups and younger people.”
