Penrith bridleway set for revamp
Work is to get underway on the £130,000 revamp of a popular bridleway linking the University of Cumbria's Newton Rigg campus and Thacka Lane in Penrith, Cumbria.
The bridleway, which is popular with coast-to-coast cyclists and walkers, as well as riders, is to be resurfaced as part of the five-day scheme in a bid to provide users with a safer, smoother surface when negotiating a gradient along the route. Cumbria County Council (CCC) is undertaking the work, which will be included in its transport capital programme after the scheme was approved late last year by the local committee for Eden.
Philip Chappelhow, leader of CCC's local committee for Eden, said: "The scheme will improve the cycling and walking link between Penrith and Newton Rigg, and hopefully encourage people to use foot or pedal power more frequently both for leisure purposes and for travelling."
