Perth Concert Hall opens
The Perth Concert Hall opened last week (16 September) in the city’s Horsecross market area.
The £17m facility is Scotland’s first full-scale, purpose-built concert hall since the opening of Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall in 1990.
Amenities at the 1,200-seat venue include a glazed open foyer and reception area, a café, a bar and a smaller, naturally-lit 150-seat multi-purpose hall.
A result of an international architectural competition, the hall was designed by architects BDP.
Construction of the hall began in 2003 and was completed last month.
Bruce Kennedy, BDP’s project architect for the concert hall, said: “The distinctive form of the main auditorium celebrates the building’s function and creates a contemporary icon for Perth.”
The concert hall, which is managed by Horsecross, was launched with a gala concert given by the Scottish National Orchestra. Details: www.horsecross.co.uk
