Pitsea facility set for major refurbishment
Pitsea Leisure Centre in Basildon, Essex, is set to be transformed after the local authority agreed to commit £100,000 towards a full refurbishment of the venue.
Basildon Council will provide the funding to help bring the centre up to the same standard as its main function room, which was given a makeover in May 2009 after local residents came second in a national campaign. Pitsea Leisure Centre boasts an indoor soft play area, five meeting rooms, four function rooms and Pitsea Day Centre, which offers activities such as snooker, pottery, table tennis and bowls.
The council has also announced a new Major Asset Refurbishment fund has been set up with an initial £350,000 investment towards revamping a range of community focal points where necessary. Basildon Council cabinet member for community Andrew Baggott said: "The centre continues to be a heavily used facility at the heart of a local community. To be able to commit additional funds towards decoration and refurbishment will brighten up the centre for existing visitors and attract new interest."
