Pizza Express denies taking on illegal staff
Restaurant chain Pizza Express denied allegations that four members of its staff arrested by immigration officers were illegal immigrants, an employment tribunal heard this week (17-21February), reports the Press Association.
In a statement PizzaExpress said: 'PizzaExpress has a rigorous recruitment policy. Every individual applying for a job is asked to produce documentation proving their identity and their entitlement to work in this country. This is far more than the current laws demand.
'Our managers are trained to check all available documentation and to reject all applicants who are unable to produce relevant identification documentation is fake is a police matter. We would dismiss anyone who we found to be working under false documentation.'
The hearing, originally scheduled to last two days, was adjourned until 8 July.
