Plans for Aberdeen sports centre
Aberdeenshire town, Banchory, is to get a new sports complex, funded by contributions from local developers through the planning gain scheme.
Developer, North Banchory, has come to a detailed agreement with Aberdeenshire Council for the leisure complex to be built and then leased back at £1 a year for 25 years.
Facilities will include a fitness suite, multi-purpose gym, café and creche. Provision will be made for the eventuality of adding a swimming pool. Other local organisations, including Banchory Squash Club, are talking to the developer about facilities.
Chair of the council’s education, learning and leisure committee, Richard Stroud, says the facility accords with the council’s drive to secure opportunities for physical and recreational activity which will encourage the development of better health within the community.
