Portuguese fitness chain plans expansion
One of Portugal’s leading health and fitness chains, Solinca, has announced plans to open three to six new clubs in Portugal and Spain over the next year.
The group – which is part of the conglomerate Sonae SGPS – was founded in 1995 with the opening of a fitness club at the Hotel Porto Palácio in Oporto and now operates six health clubs in Portugal and one in Spain.
The group is expected to open its seventh Portuguese club this October in Viana do Castelo, northern Portugal.
A premium health club brand, the chain currently has approximately 21,000 members, most of which come from the corporate market.
The company has also announced it is moving away from offering trends geared towards the mass market and is instead to develop an increasingly personalised service for its members with tailored training programmes. Details: Health Club Management September 04, p.79
