Public consultation launched before £23m baths revamp
St Pancras Baths in Kentish Town, London, are to undergo a £22.7m revamp and Camden Council has launched a public consultation that will last until 25 February – the day the baths will close – so local residents will be able to put forward their ideas on how the renovated building should look.
The 100-year-old, Grade II-listed building, now known as the Kentish Town Sports Centre (KTSC), was last fully refurbished in 1961 and needs extensive work.
Flick Rea, the council’s executive member for sport and culture, said: “This is the first time KTSC has been significantly refurbished in more than 40 years so I really hope local people and users will come out in force and tell us what they think.”
The planned improvements include repairs to all three pools; a new entrance foyer and reception area; new changing facilities and a new gym. Detailed plans for the project will be revealed in March.
The baths are expected to reopen in 2010. Details: www.camden.gov.uk
