The first luxury Radisson Edwardian Hotel outside London is set to open in Manchester in June.

The £50m, five-star hotel, located in the centre of the city, is built on the site of the historic Free Trade Hall, the former home of the Hallé symphony orchestra and has been designed by architects Stephenson Bell.

As well as retaining the façade of the Free Trade Hall, its musical heritage is also preserved with statues of former conductors and players lining the atrium in the reception area.

A 14-storey building housing the rest of the hotel towers behind the famous façade.

Targeting both leisure and business guests, the 263-bedroom hotel will offer 20 suites – including four penthouses – all of which have their own balcony and access to a winter garden.

A New York-style bar-restaurant, Opus 1 will feature a floor to ceiling wine display, while a second restaurant, Alto Terrace, will offer all day dining.

As part of the development, the hotel will also offer its guest and members a new, day spa.

The Sienna Spa & Health Club will have five treatment rooms, be run by Fitness Express and will use Elemis products and treatments.

The spa’s other planned amenities include a swimming pool, tanning tables, steamroom, spa pool, a sauna and a fully equipped gym with a number of cv stations.

The treatment room are being built within the hall’s historic barrel vaults to strengthen the feeling of seclusion.

There will also be 18 meeting rooms and a conferencing room with a capacity of 400.

The company says the design of the hotel will be ‘rich, oriental and opulent, yet modern and extremely stylish’.

General manager, Stephen Miles, said: “Manchester is being hailed as the new Barcelona and this hotel is worthy of such an exhilarating and cosmopolitan city.

“We have created a classical-contemporary five-star hotel with a pretence-free attitude – a perfect destination.” Details: www.radissonedwardian.com
