Carlson Hotels is to open the Radisson Hotel and Spa Martinique, a 175-room beachfront hotel located in Schoelcher on the eastern side of the island.

The resort, which is owned by the Groupe Monplaisir and was formerly the Hotel La Bateliere, will undergo a US$10m (£6.5m, €7.5m) renovation beginning in mid-June and is expected to join the Radisson brand by the end of 2011. It will join three existing Radisson properties in the area, those on Aruba, Grand Bahama Island and St Martin. Among the planned improvements, the hotel will have two restaurants and three bars, one of the latter being on the beachfront. It will also feature six banqueting rooms, a complete spa and fitness centre, a beauty salon, a diving club and six tennis courts.
