Refurbishment gets underway at Yate Leisure Centre
A £1.8m refurbishment of Yate Leisure Centre in South Gloucestershire began on 27 May.
The project, funded by a partnership between South Gloucestershire Council and South Gloucestershire Trust will take place over the next six months and completely revamp the facility, which originally opened in 1972.
The work will take place in three phases between May and November and has been planned to ensure the centre has facilities to match the local communities’ needs for the future.
The revamp includes creating a 90-station fitness suite, new health and fitness changing areas, a group exercise studio with new equipment, a café/ bar, improved reception and customer services, a new wet changing village area, a new children’s indoor play facility and crèche, as well as general purpose rooms refurbished from the existing fitness suite rooms.
Chair of the Leisure Trust, Jon Edwards, said: “I am delighted that after such a short time the leisure trust and the council have been able to work in strong partnership to deliver on the key reason behind the set up of the trust which is to ensure the best leisure facilities for our customers.”
The centre will remain open throughout the work although there will be occasional disruption to some services, including the temporary relocation of the main entrance.
